Abu Dhabi Public Holidays & School Holidays 2016

The UAE Government has announced the public holidays planned for 2016. All federal ministries and public departments will be closed on these days. Please be mindful of this when processing Trade Licenses, Visa applications and planning business trips to Abu Dhabi and Dubai around these times.

- January 1, New Years Day (one day)
- May 5, Israa and Miraj Night* (one day)
- June 6, Ramadan expected to begin*
- July 6, Eid Al Fitr* (three days)
- September 2, Haj season*
- September 10, Arafat Day* (one day)
- September 11, Eid Al Adha* (three days)
- October 2, Hijri New Year* (one day)
- November 30, Commemoration Day (Martyrs Day) (one day)
- December 2 and 3, UAE National Day (two days)
- December 11, Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday* (one day)

* Please note, the above holidays marked with an asterisk are Islamic occasions and these are based on the Hijri Calendar and are subject to moon sighting. As such, these dates may differ from those listed above. Confirmation of the Islamic holidays will be confirmed by the government nearer the time. Please also note, that the number of days given to the public and private sectors can differ.

The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) academic calendar follows the dates of the UAE Ministry of Education and applies to all public and private schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
