Visas & Emirates ID

Every person living in the UAE is required to have a visa, health insurance and Emirates ID card.

During the process to arrange these, each applicant must have a medical:

  • Blood Test (screening for HIV)

  • X-Ray (screening for pulmonary tuberculosis)

For the Emirates ID card, each applicant must visit an Emirates Identity Authority Centre for fingerprinting and an eye scan

Onshore companies in the UAE are required to supply medical insurance to their staff. This is arranged at the time of processing the visa.

Employment visas for onshore companies in the UAE are generally issued for two years whilst UAE free zone visas are issued for three years.

How visas impact your business?

Before employing any staff, new companies need to register with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE).

It is important employees don't work without a visa - for both the employer's protection and theirs.  Penalities include   fines of up to AED50,000 per employee for the company and up to AED50,000 for the individual employee(s) too.

Have you considered what the operational impact would be for your business if your staff didn’t have visas in a timely manner?

Processing visas can be emotional and distracting for staff members if they are bringing their families to the UAE or travelling around the time it is being processed.  How would this affect the efficiency of your own business?

Companies can save on visa and health insurance fees by employing staff who have a visa sponsored by their family.  In such instances, companies are only required to provide a labour card.
